The Town of Lexington is the county seat of Lexington County, west of Columbia along I-20, US-378 and US-1. It has grown quickly, and the area around it — Red Bank, Gilbert, Pelion and the Lake Murray shore — makes up much of what buyers mean when they say they want to live in Lexington.

Lexington County School District One serves the town and much of the surrounding area, and it is one of the main reasons families move here. Attendance zones are drawn tightly, so we confirm the schools for the exact address before you rely on them.

The housing ranges from new construction subdivisions to established neighborhoods and homes on larger lots further out. Lake Murray sits on the north side of the area, with waterfront and water-access homes that sell on very different terms from a house in town.

The trade-off is traffic. Sunset Boulevard and US-378 through town are busy at rush hour, so we time the commute into Columbia from each home you are considering.
